The Age UK review identified more than three million people aged over 65 with a care need, but found just two-thirds of them were actually getting help.

Scam mail victims lose more than £1,000 each

Victims of scam mail have an average age of 74 and have typically lost more than £1,000, investigators have confirmed. Teams of officers working for National Trading Standards (NTS) identified 10,843 victims in the year to April. The average loss was £1,184 - about £13m in total - but officers think hidden losses are much higher.

One in three people born this year will develop dementia, according to new figures. The Alzheimer's Research UK charity warned of a "looming national health crisis" as the population ages. It called for greater efforts across the globe to help develop new treatments.

5 million adults in England "at risk of diabetes"

Up to five million people in England are at risk of developing type-2 diabetes, according to new data from Public Health England. Type-2 diabetes is closely linked to diet and obesity and affects about 3.2 million people across the UK. The NHS says diabetes causes 22,000 early deaths and costs the health service more than £8bn each year.
