About Us

People First is provided in association with the Adult Social Care teams of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and Westminster City Council.

We are council-funded and run, but the aim is to provide a wealth of information and resources covering the whole of the private, voluntary and public sector across the three boroughs. As such, we act as 'honest brokers' putting residents at the centre of choice and control and determining their own lives.

We have tried to make People First an easy-to-use source of information, ideas and services to help maintain independence and well-being. The site is aimed at the older adult population, people living with disabilities of whatever kind, and those who look after others.

Providing information from across two London boroughs - Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster, uniquely allows residents to identify and choose services regardless of borough boundaries. We've pooled our resources to try to give you the best possible range of information and choices.

We called the website "People First" because we aim to treat people as experts on their own lives and issues, looking at the bigger picture, not just a specific need. We want residents to feel in control of their own lives and the choices they have available to them. We aim to help people live with pride and dignity as part of the local community.

We do this by providing simple menus with specially commissioned illustrations, giving the site a bright, friendly and informative feel, and use language that people themselves use, avoiding jargon.

When you look at information, panels on the right display related topics, services and organsiations that might be able to help. If you see something that takes your fancy - read the information about it and then contact the agency or supplier directly. There's also information on how to contact your local Council if you think you need a bit of help.

The website is also for the use of social care professionals, people working in health and care services, and anybody with an interest in adult social care issues.
