Organisation details

Action Disability Kensington & Chelsea Personal Budget Project

Personal Budgets are intended to:-

  • allocate resources transparently, giving individuals a clear cash or notional sum for them to use on their care or support package
  • streamline the assessment process across agencies, meaning less time spent giving information give individuals the ability to use the budget in a way that best suits their own particular requirements

The ADKC Personal Budget Project has been up and running in its current form since December 2009. Martha and Jenny, the PB team, support individuals with physical disabilities, sensory impairments or hidden disabilities to maximize their choice and control over how support is provided by:

  • Giving information about Personal Budgets
  • Providing support and advocacy through the assessment process
  • Helping people to complete Support Plans (a document saying how the individual wants to use the money allocated)
  • Giving information about local Care Agencies / services / equipment
  • Helping people to privately employ Personal Assistants
  • Giving advice about record keeping / assistance with monitoring
  • Finding / providing training on various aspects of using Personal Budgets
  • Offering a Managed account service for people who don't want to deal with the money
  • Offering a Payroll service (coming soon) for people employing private workers

They also have a Peer Support Group where PB users can meet other people who have PBs and talk with guests about issues to do with Personal Budgets. The group is a good opportunity to share experiences, decide how the PB project should develop, work towards influencing policies, and find out what is happening locally and nationally about Personal Budgets etc.

If you are interested in finding out more about Personal Budgets, signing up to our support services or becoming a member of our PB peer support service, please contact the Personal Budge Support Team at ADKC on pbadmin@adkc.org.uk or pbsupport@adkc.org.uk or call us on 020 8960 8888.
