Disability benefits

There is a wide range of disability-related financial support, including benefits, tax credits, payments, grants and concessions.

The main disability and sickness benefits are:

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) helps with some of the extra costs caused by long-term ill-health or a disability if you're aged 16 to 64.

You can also get a fast-tracked award of PIP if you are not expected to live more than 6 months.

The DWP started to move people aged 16 to 64 off Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and on to PIP from 8 April 2013.  Those aged 65 and over at that time remained on DLA.

Attendance Allowance is payable to people over the age of 65 with a a physical or mental health disability to cover the cost of their personal care.

It's paid at 2 different rates and how much you get depends on the level of care that you need because of your disability.
