Is your heart in good shape? Take the test to find out
Almost four-fifths (78%) of more than 1.9 million people in England who have taken Public Health England’s online “heart age test” were found to have a heart that is older than their chronological age.
The free Heart Age Test being offered by Public Health England (PHE) is part of a campaign to reduce the number of people who die from a heart attack or a stroke, which stands at 84,100 annually.
They predict about 80% of heart attacks and strokes in people under 75 could be prevented if heart health was improved.
Unhealthy lifestyles put four in five adults at risk of early death, they estimate.
People should quit smoking, eat a healthy diet and get enough exercise.
Obesity, poor diet, a lack of exercise and high blood pressure are significant risk factors for the heart that can be changed.
