Kensington and Chelsea's COVID-19 Hub begins operating

Food parcels are being distributed to Kensington and Chelsea’s most vulnerable residents after the borough’s COVID-19 Hub started operating.

The facility has been set up by the Council to prepare and deliver Government packages of food and drink to people classified as “clinically vulnerable” who have to be shielded at home for 12 weeks, particularly those without support networks in place who don’t have someone who can get shopping or medical supplies for them.

The NHS has provided the Council with details of those for whom self-isolation is most critical, and Kensington and Chelsea is now contacting everyone in the group to ensure they receive the support they need.

The Council is also working with the voluntary and community sectors to support even more vulnerable residents, including those who are not part of the NHS list but who do not have families or friends to support them.

Kensington and Chelsea Council Leader Cllr Elizabeth Campbell said:

“Our most vulnerable residents are doing their bit by following the advice to shield themselves, so we are committed to ensuring they have essential supplies while they self-isolate.

“We have begun distributing these vital packages and our officers are working hard to continue reaching those most in need in the coming days.”

The hub is part of the Government’s Local Support Scheme to support the 1.5 million people identified by the NHS nationally as being at highest risk of severe illness and for whom self-isolation is most critical.
