National Fitness Day
National Fitness Day, 23rd September 2020,looks to highlight the importance of leading a healthier and more active lifestyle, and there’s plenty of activities to get stuck into.
Coordinated by the not-for-profit health body ukactive, National Fitness Day sees a huge range of activity options enjoyed by participants of all ages, such as ‘plank offs’, yoga and pilates classes, treadmill challenges, high-street HIIT classes, dance-offs, mass walks and many more.
Ways you can get involved include hosting virtual workouts, leading fitness challenges, or participating in many of the free exercise classes that can be found on its events website.
Virtual or Online sessions
Getting your sweat on doesn’t always require a gym membership, especially since lockdown inspired a shift to virtual sessions that you can join from the comfort of your living room.
Everyone Active, Westminster's partners and leisure contractor, is helping local residents to transition back to the gym thanks to a new virtual fitness subscription package called Everyone On Demand, which is free to all new and existing gym members. Everyone On Demand access is available for £9.99 a month, as a stand alone package without gym membership, which you can find out about here.
You may follow YouTube fitness instructors like Joe Wicks, who exercised and encourage the nation to join his PE classes through social media whilst the nation was in lockdown. Joe uses short intense High Intensity Interval Training workouts ranging from 5 mins to longer for participants who are as young as schoolchildren to older seniors on his Body Coach TV channel.
For a more relaxed approach to improving strength and tone, try yoga, and if you’re new to it and want some guidance to help perfect positions and technique, try following a session with Yoga With Adriene, one of the biggest yoga YouTube channels, fronted by instructor Adriene Mishler.
