Brighter Kensington and Chelsea Scheme
The Brighter Kensington and Chelsea Scheme, founded in 1953, is a registered charity which exists to ”encourage horticulture in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, in particular by awarding prizes in open competitions to the residents of the Borough”. Through their work they contribute to the Royal Borough’s success in the Britain in Bloom and London in Bloom competitions, where community involvement is increasingly valued in the judging.
Their principal activity is the Annual Competition. Every summer their numerous entrants make a great contribution to the green look of the Royal Borough. There are categories for everyone: gardens patios, balconies and window boxes of private houses and flats, schools and garden squares. They are particularly keen to encourage entries from community projects, commercial premises including hotels and pubs, and entries from householders whose efforts brighten up the whole street.
