African Women's Group

The African Women Group was formed as a self-help group for local African Refugee Women and their families suffering isolation, social exclusion and deprivation. It is one a handful of voluntary organisations for African Refugee Women in West London offering support to African Refugee Women to raise awareness and build confidence, so that they are able to develop themselves and take moreresponsibilities for their own lives. 

The organisation is run by women for women with the aim to work towards the empowerment and self development of women through a provision of drop in service and a programme of workshops and community based courses. The Group provides a safe environment for women and their children to come together, share their experiences, participate and learn new skills that will lead to a better quality of life.

The objectives of the African Women Group are:

  • To relieve poverty, hardship and distress of African Refugee Women living in London by the provision of regarding their educational, training and employment needs as well as advice onhealth matters, housing, interpreting/translating and advocacy.
  • The preservation and protection of health amongst women from Africa.
  • To provide or assist in the provision of facilities for the recreation and other leisure timeoccupations in the interests of social welfare and the object of improving their conditions of life.
