Asian Women's Resource Centre
Aims to lead in the provision of support services for Asian women and children, by working in partnership with funding providers, the public and private sector and the community.
Our Services
Asian Women's Resource Centre is a charity where women can meet, share social and cultural activities and be encouraged to further their personal and professional development through training programmes and benefit from the following services:
Advice and Information:
One-to-one advice and Information sessions on welfare benefits, housing, immigration services
Multi-lingual Advice Line in 6 community languages- Arabic, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu
Activities and Workshops:
Women's drop-in sessions: speakers with specialised knowledge are invited to talk about issues relevant to Asian women
Activities are arranged for learning and socialising
Opportunities for Asian women to share experiences
Luncheon Club
Domestic Violence Outreach Support:
Providing emergency support by prioritizing women who are emotionally distressed and those who need immediate referral to refuge. This also involves crucial initial, and if necessary, ongoing support over the phone
Producing multi-lingual publicity materials
Advocating with other Statutory and Voluntary organisations so that womenÂ’s needs are identified, prioritised and met.
Advocating for children, and liaising with relevant services when necessary
Voicing womenÂ’s needs in BrentÂ’s Domestic Violence Forum and inputting into policies that affect the safety and security of women and children experiencing domestic violence.
Providing expertise as and when required to raise awareness of domestic violence and best practice in supporting women.
Domestic Violence Support Group:
Providing ongoing advice and support in the form Support Group with crèche facilities
Counseling:
One to one counseling for women experiencing domestic violence
Multi-Lingual Advice Line:
Telephone advice on Welfare Benefit, Immigration, Education, Employment, Family Matters, Domestic Violence
Training
To Voluntary and Statuary sector organisations on specialist issues affecting Asian women,
To users in order to encourage their personal and professional development.
Sexual Health Information:
Free pregnancy testing service
Condom distribution scheme
Provides opportunities for children and young people (8-15 yrs) to learn new skills through educational and recreational workshops, short trips and develop new friends.
Volunteering Opportunities:
The volunteers are involved in varied tasks relating to the work of the Center. It creatures an opportunity for them to develop their knowledge and skills to move on to paid employment.
Young WomenÂ’s Group:
Workshops and discussions
Crisis intervention work
One-to-one support on following issues: parental conflict, relationships, identity, education and sexual health.
