Physical activity and exercise : Cycling schemes, training and programmes

Cycle training (Kensington and Chelsea)

Kensington and Chelsea offer free cycling training to all adults who live, work or study in the borough. Attending a session can help:

  • boost your confidence
  • improve your awareness
  • make you safer on the road

The training sessions are:

  • free to attend
  • two hours long
  • carried out on a one-to-one basis
  • run by highly experienced instructors
  • suitable for all levels of experience

Cycle training (Westminster)

Westminster is committed to making cycling safe, enjoyable and practical.

They offer free city cycling courses to anyone who lives, works or studies in Westminster. Sessions are available for individuals or groups and are tailored to your riding experience and needs.

The courses are run by Cycle Confident, an approved provider of Bikeability


All Ability Cycling Club

All Abilities Club in Kensington and Chelsea take place on alternative weekends, at Wormwood Scrubs, and Ashburnham Community School. This is for people of all abilities to attend and cycle, or learn how to cycle. Standard an adaptable bike available.

Try before you bike

Try Before You Bike is a user-friendly scheme, open to anyone who lives, works or studies in the boroughs, that is specifically designed to encourage people to cycle, run by Peddle my wheels.

Pay monthly for a bike (including hybrid, folding bikes, e-bikes, and e-cargo bikes) with an easy to order process.

  • Free friendly delivery to your door with accessories (helmet, lights and lock), guidance and a bespoke training session of up to 2 hours.
  • No deposit or hidden fees.
  • Affordable purchase options and Cycle To Work available.
  • Free collection if you decide the bike is not for you.
  • Support and encouragement given to help you get confident on the roads.

Bikeworks Cycle Connect

Cycle Connect offers a free, door-to-door, side-by-side cycling service for residents of Kensington and Chelsea, Westminster, and the estates surrounding Wormwood Scrubs.

  • Electric-assisted bikes for up to three passengers
  • 1.5-hour slots for journeys or leisure rides
  • Book by phone: 0208 9807 998 (option 4)

Santander Bike Concessionary Fares

Low-income residents in Westminster can access unlimited 60-minute rides for just £5 per month for 30 days, renewable for up to 12 months. Program may be terminate extended after May.

Available for those facing health challenges or financial difficulties.

Bike Maintenance

During Dr Bike sessions, experienced mechanics check everything on your bike for free. Sessions are present across Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea
